Unite Hero Pack

This is a collection of fan-made characters from the TiMi Studios Group game Pokémon Unite. For this project, my main focus was to work as a Game Designer to create a new roster that was designed with unique abilities and character concepts that would meld well with existing characters. I designed all aspects of the characters, wrote a comprehensive design document, and created the illustrations accompanying the project, including character sheets and cards for each member of the roster.

For the Game Design Document, detailing each character's role, abilities, and moves in more depth, you can scroll down further or click here.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The project scope was to create and design unique characters for the game Pokémon Unite. There were 3 characters designed for each of the 5 roles in-game, totaling 15 uniquely designed characters. The characters were designed to have unique roles so no two are alike but also gave the chance to introduce new mechanics that would fit into the game smoothly. These included harsher damage over time effects, reflecting damage, and unique forms of healing and crowd control.

NEW CHARACTERS AND ABILITIES

Below we'll cover some of the new characters and their new abilities in detail. Each character was designed to fit a new role that was not covered currently or add some new variety in their respected roles category. New in-game effects were added to some characters to give each a unique feel that did not exist in the game currently.

Aggron: High Damage Tank

New Effects and Role: Receives and Reflects Damages, Crowd Controls Enemies

This character was designed to be a bulky target that would absorb damage for its team and release that damage back to enemies. It has higher defenses than most of the other characters to compensate for the role. To help fulfill this job, two moves were created to work very well with each other: Taunt and Metal Burst.

Taunt is a slightly new and altered version of an already existing affliction, where targets move towards the user and can not target anyone but them. This allows the user to keep its allies safe but also have a chance to absorb damage to reflect back to the opponent.

Metal Burst is a core part of this character's kit and how the identity was designed. While the character has a passive ability that utilizes the reflect damage core design, this ability puts it into full effect. By drawing into attention, the user can keep teammates safe and still deal with threats by dishing out damage in return.

Salazzle: Escalating Status Effects

New Effects and Role: Multiple Lingering Damage Effects, Longer Lasting and Contagious

This character acts as a constant source of damage to a target, preventing them from healing after a huge instance of damage with a trickle of constant damage that lasts longer than most other characters. With a poison that lasts longer, a new form of poison in Toxic damage, and the ability to apply Burn damage as well, this character exists to make sure the opponents on the team do not survive engagements.

Most status effects last on one character for a short time, but Salazzle's lasts for much longer. Corrosion allows poison to spread to the opponent's nearby allies if too close for too long. While not a part of their core kit, her ultimate can apply Toxic as well, which is an upgraded form of Poison, allowing normal poison damage to increase in damage over time.

Even though this character's kit revolves around poison, they also have another status effect to use: Burn. Burn damages for a short time like Poison, but also decreases the opponent's offensive capabilities. These effects can be stacked, allowing this character to be a massive damage threat on the field.

Cradily: Dual Healer and Supporter

New Effects and Role: Lingering Siphoning Healing, Weakening, and Buffs

This character supports its team with a variety of situational options: buffing its teammates, weakening its enemies, or healing through damaging the enemy. Its form of healing is a new ability called siphoning; by damaging an opponent, the user heals itself and heals all allies in close proximity a percentage of damage dealt.

Siphoning is the main standout point for Cradily. By taking health from enemies, this character can help widdle down enemies and heal all of its allies. Some abilities make this siphoning effect linger, so the enemy does not need to be in main focus to receive the benefits. While its healing might not be as high as other healers, it makes up for this with widespread area healing

If the healing role isn't needed, this character can be an excellent source of buffs and debuffs for its allies. It has options to weaken and slow enemies it hits in wide areas, or rally its team by increasing nearby teammates' attack and movement speed.

Lopunny: Mobile Hard Hitting Supporter

New Effects and Role: Fast and Agile Support, High Damage

Lastly is the character which has an interesting role in being a Speed character, but has support elements to its kit that isn't all damage-based. This character uses a mix of mobile abilities to reposition around the map, then being able to heal or buff its allies in combat. It also comes with some high damage moves that aid in the ability to be mobile.

The most unique aspect of this character's kit is the support it provides in healing and buffs for its allies' attack and movement speed. With Healing Wish, the user can leave a healing aura for itself and allies before jumping back into the battle with increased attack speed for extra damage.

To compliment the agile roll, the alternate set of moves allows this character to deal higher damage attacks and move around the map easily. Bounce gives the user the added benefit of resetting other cooldowns to use the supportive portion of its kit more easily. With its increased attack speed and movement, there is a lot of damage simply in its basic attacks.
